Google Doodle Celebrates Earth Day 2013
Google celebrates today, the 43rd anniversary of Earth Day with an interactive doodle. Every year on April 22, it is celebrated for creating awareness among the people on environment issues. Various type of events held today across the world to create sensation in people about the need of protecting our environment. The idea to observe this day on March 21 was first proposed by John McConnell at UNESCO Conference in San Fransisco in 1969. But it was made on April 22 by the proposal of US Senator Gaylord Nelso as the date to observe it every year. As a conservationist and an environmental activist, Nelson pushed for its celebration as a national teach-in on environmental issues after the frightful oil spill off the coast in 1969. It is celebrated by millions of people across the globe. Non-profit organizations, governments, schools and communities hold several interactive programmes and activities to create awareness about the need to protect environment.Google Doodle Earth Day 2013
The doodle released by Google features a landscape and a static sun with a featured button inset inside. When clicked on the doodle's featured button, the sun starts moving and gradually sets in the west. As the sun sets, the moon rises in the glittering sky. The moon can be seen in different phases as it moves across the sky. The doodle also features the cycle of seasons - spring, summer, autumn and winter. In 2013, this is the best time to let people know about the need to conserve nature and create more awareness.Earlier Google Doodle on Previous Earth Day

- from melting polar ice in 2007 (a prophetic nod to the record Arctic melt that year),
- rocks in 2008,
- a waterfall and marine life in 2009 to
- parrots in 2010,
- pandas in 2011 and
