Bollywood's King Of Comedy David Dhawan tried to remake the magic of an old tale with his latest release Chashme Baddoor which released on Friday.

'Chashme Baddoor' is exactly similar to any other David Dhawan film. It is a movie for good time pass. There is no clever humour but there is enough comedy to ensure a little original laughs. Omi (Divyendu Sharma), Jai (Siddharth) and Siddharth (Ali Zafar) are three close friends who fall in love of the same girl. Siddharth is really in love with the new next door neighbor while the other two are always looking to have fun. Living life large is their motto, but the only thing that doesn't seem to work for Omi and Jai is that no woman is interested in them. Sid, on the other hand, lives a normal life. Omi and Jai decide to cheat Siddharth when they realize that their best friend has achieved to win the girl that they both had set their eyes on. Confusion and misadventures appeared as when the lovers try to figure out a way to get back together. 'Chashme Baddooor' cannot claim of any smart writing, the comedy is mostly predictable. The plot seldom deviates from the point except to include the sub-plot about Joseph (Rishi Kapoor) - Josephine (Lillete Dubey) romance. The problem, however is that the side story is not strong enough to contribute either substantially to the narrative or to provide any extra laughs. The performances are strictly okay except Anupam Kher who in a double role is twice as much fun as the rest of the actors put together. The music too doesn't really left impression except the 'Har ek friend kamina hota hai' song which is quite a addictive number. David Dhawan's comedy is comical but never cringe-worthy. 'Chashme Baddoor' is definitely a fun watch.

The movie is a remake of 1981 hit Sai Paranjpye's witty and infectiously mirthful Chashme Buddoor.  The new version is a loud romantic comedy; a far cry from Paranjpye's subtle one.

The film has mostly been panned by critics for it's average humour and shameful degradation of the original script. According to the critics, David Dhawan's film actually trifles with the very spirit of Paranjpaye's Chashme Buddoor, to an unbearable level. If you have watched the original movie, you will find David Dhawan's treatment an insult to the classic. Even if you haven't watched the original, there aren't many chances of you loving this bawdy and banal humour. Did you like the film? Share your views/comments.
