Bayern Munich brutally crushed and beat Barcelona in first leg of Champions League this season on Tuesday at Allianz Arena. Thomas Mueller made 2 goals and Mario Gomez and Arjen Robben setup other 2 for Bayern. Barcelona defender Gerard Pique said that Bayern gave them a thrashing. The much expected showdown between the European heavywights was a mismatch for both of 4-times winners of the competition. Bayern dominated in the midfield and this frustrated passing game of Barcelona before it could get close enough to create atleast some chances and this also punished the Catalans at the other end. Bayern used its size advantage to minimize the attack of Barcelona in the air and simply bulled Barcelona.
Barcelona got some hope from the return of its star Lionel Messi before the match but during the match Messi was not able to find an inch of space in Bayern's defense and he was clearly not fitted it. He was virtually invisible. Messi took only one and saw little with the ball. Lionel Messi was had a hamstring injury and missed 3 spanish league games.

In this match, Barcelona was never seemed to have any chance. In the 25th minute, Muller made an opening goal by driving in an open header. The playmakers Xavi and Andrés Iniesta took none.

This team has dominated the Europe over the last 5-years and if you can beat them like this, you can be proud, according to Robben of Barcelona.
