Celebrations of Republic day
Indian and Pakistani B.S.F exchanged sweets- Around 25,000 police personnel, including those from paramilitary forces & sharpshooters from the elite National Security Guards [NSG] were deployed across the city in the run-up to the national celebrations.
- Vehicles entering the city were randomnly checked.
- The minimum temperature for the day was recorded at 6.4 degrees Celsius, two degrees below normal & up by 0.8 degrees from yesterday's 5.6 degrees Celsius.
- Though there was a smog cover in the early hours, the thin veil gave way to the sun as the day progressed.
- As the city witnessed a terror strike only four months ago, the security establishment left no stone unturned to ensure an incident-free celebrations.
The Republic Day ceremonies will highlight the nation's achievements in various fields, the military prowess, scintillating display of air power as also country's rich & diverse cultural heritage. The highlights of this year will also be the above 5,000 km range Agni-V missile.
Bhutan King chief guest at Republic Day parade- The Young Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck was the chief guest at India's Republic Day programme on Saturday. He described ties between the two countries as "borne on the spirit of trust, interdependence & constancy". Bhutan King is known for inviting his subjects for tea at his palace in the picturesque Bhutanese capital of Thimphu, shares the honour of being the Chief Guest.
