How Backlinks helps in Improving SEO?

Search Engine Optimization is the key to success. SEO can make the difference between your site sitting alone with no visitors or your site generating millions of dollars as revenue. Backlinks helps a lot in improving SEO.

For successful search engine optimisation (SEO), it is not just the content of your own site that is important, but the site’s appearance in other places on the internet.

If you are looking to optimize you website, there are only 3 things to concern yourself with: quality content, keyword-rich title/meta tags, and backlinks.

In the earlier posts, we talked about

One thing is very clear that ‘Backlinks’ are very important for SEO. Now, we will talk about “how backlinks are helpful in improving SEO of your blog”.

Use of backlinks for SEO

Backlinks are the tools used in search engine optimization (SEO), because the number and quality of backlinks that point to a website’s often plays a role in the site’s rank among search results.

Search engines will consider the quality of backlinks when indexing and ranking a website. A good back-link will have most or all of the following attributes:

Backlink should come from a reputable website

A website is generally considered reliable and trustworthy, if it is popular and highly relevant to the keyword that is being searched. Then, the site is viewed positively by visitors and search engines.

Backlink should be on a page which contains relevant information

Links should not be added on pages/posts which are irrelevant to your website content. These types of links are considered as spam by search engines and penalised in the form of rankings.

This step is to prevent people who try to ‘fool the system’ by placing  a large of links in the hope of gaining visitors unfairly – it is a form of ‘black hat SEO’.

The back-link text (anchor text) should be a relevant keyword

Link text, or anchor text, is the visible link on the screen. Ideally, this text should be a strong keyword, as this clearly shows visitors and crawlers what the link is about and therefore its relevance to a search term.

or

Anchor Text is the word or phrase linked to your URL or web page. This text defines the page that it links to, both for human eyes and for search engines. Ideally you will use the phrase you most want that web page to rank well for in the major search engines, and also a phrase that compels real people to click through and read the page.

As an example, this is Anchor Text: how to improve SEO using Google Adwords. That phrase tells Google that the page is all about how to use Google Adwords to improve our blog’s SEO. Using this phrase as the Anchor Text makes this page more likely to rank for that phrase.

A strong backlink will be a relevant and descriptive keyword.

Your own website will be of good quality

Strong backlinks will not be useful to you if your website isn’t helpful to visitors who arrive there.

All your webpages should be easy to navigate and filled with relevant keywords and content – even if a site receives a lot of visitors to its homepage. If visitors are not finding what they need and clicking through to other pages on your site, this may also harm your search engine ranking.

While calculating the relevance of a website to a keyword, Search Engines consider the number of QUALITY inbound links to that site. So we should not be satisfied with merely getting inbound links, it is the quality of the inbound link that matters.

A search engine considers the content of the sites to determine the QUALITY of a link. When inbound links to your site come from other sites, and those sites have content related to your site, these inbound links are considered more relevant to your site.

If inbound links are found on sites with unrelated content, they are considered less relevant.

The higher the relevance of inbound links, the greater will be their quality.

For example, if a webmaster has a website about how to rescue orphaned kittens, and received a backlink from another website about kittens, then that would be more relevant in a search engine’s assessment than say a link from a site about SEO.

so, we can say that
Strong links to your website from reputable and relevant sources will boost your site’s search engine ranking.

One backlink from a high authority website is more valuable than 100s of backlinks from low authority websites.

The main pitfall to worry about, however, is to not get a back link from a bad neighborhood, like a link farm. Never pay for links, that will get a site deleted out of the index – and Google knows, so don’t try to fool her.
