India Australia Test Series : Day3, Ist Test
Australia's target on day 3 was be to dismiss Indians quickly & get a big lead over their first innings total while India thought to gain a big lead so that they cut to bat in fourth innings. India resumed their play on day 3 with 182 at loss of 3 wickets with Sachin & Virat at the crease. Sachin continued his innings with his overnight score of 71 & began the day with a boundary. On day 3, aussie bowlers were very tight with their line & length & they gave easy runs very tightly. This resulted to the downfall of Sachin on 81 as he was clean bowled by Lyon. The ball came in very sharply resulting an inside edge on to the stumps. Kohli & Sachin ended up with a partnership of 91. Indians were 196-4 at that stage. Indian captain MS Dhoni was the next to join Virat. Indians managed to score ony 20 odd runs in the first hour of play of day 3. But after the arrival of Dhoni, runs start to flow quiet quickly. India were 263-4 on lunch at day 3. Soon after Lunch, Dhoni reached his half century with a four & new ball was also taken till that moment of time. The old ball stayed for 82 overs. The arrival of the second new ball was the signal for Dhoni to launch the most brazen of batting assaults. Taking advantage of a harder projectile more waywardly delivered by Australia's bowlers, Dhoni's blade flashed in the afternoon sun as boundaries piled up. India managed to get 54 runs in the first seven overs from the new ball. In the mean time, kohli also reached his 4th test century & continued his googd form in test cricket. This is his 2nd consecutive test hunderd. Previous was against england, where he scored 103 in nagpur. Virat Kohli made the hundred, MS Dhoni made the statement. India's middle order made Australia sweat on the third afternoon in Chennai, But Lyon again got another dismissal for his team bringing up the wicket of Kohli on 107. Kohli's ambition outstripped his prudence, and Starc claimed a fine overhead catch at mid-on. At this moment of time, Indians were 324-5. Then came Ravinder Jadeja. Soon after Tea, Ashwin & Harbhajan departed very quickly. Ashwin made only 3, while Harbhajanwith a six & a four scored 11. Ashwin was bowled by Lyon. Harbhajan became the first victim of Henriques of test carrier. Dhoni also reached his 6th test century. He made his century in 119 balls only. Indians were looking in trouble at that moment of time with 406-8. But with the arrival of debutant B. Kumar, Dhoni decided to gear up runs speed. He went to score quick runs by hitting big boundries. India reached their 450 in 128 overs. After that Dhoni continued his attack & reached pass his besttest score passing previous best of 148 scored against Pakistan way back in 2006, at that time, it was the last time, india toured pakistan. With another boundary throgh point region, Dhoni reached his 150. Dhoni continued his show as the crowd was also on their feets all through, it was getting a perfect game of play on sunday for chennai crowd. In no matter of time, India passed their total of 500 in 136.2 overs. In very next over, Dhoni ran a quick single to reach his maiden test double hunderd. He became the indian wicket-kipper batsman to do so. He played 231 balls to reach 200 hitting 21 fours & 5 big sixes. With that single, both Dhoni & Kumar added 100 runs for the 9th wicket. Bhuvneshwar Kumar played beautifully for his 16* & gave a handy contribution in a partenership. By the close of play, India scored 515-8 in 141 overs. On day 4, India must be focusing to increase their lead as much possible & then dismiss australians to seal a victory. Dhoni remained not out on 206.
