As she staggered to her feet the star-studded audience leapt up to give the blushing actress a standing ovation, much to her embarrassment 'Thank you so much,' she told them. 'This is nuts. You guys are only standing up because I fell and you feel bad. That was embarrassing.' Lawrence used all her remaining strength to give a charmingly breathless acceptance speech. Jennifer also thanked her co-stars, crew and team for their support before wishing her fellow nominee, Amour star Emmanuelle Riva a happy 86th birthday. Dressed in a stunning off-white strapless Dior Haute Couture gown, her accident happened as  Silver Linings Playbook star Jennifer rushed to the stage still shocked by her win. As she fell on her knees Jennifer momentarily held her head in her hands, but quickly carried on. A smiling Hugh Jackman rushed to help Jennifer, holding out his hand to escort her safely to the podium. Despite her initial embarrassment the 22-year-old quickly laughed off the incident and began her stream of thank you. Perhaps Jennifer's quick recovery is due to the fact that she's been in a very similar situation before. At the Screen Actor's Guild Awards her midnight blue Dior gown appeared to fall apart as she climbed the stairs. Then Dior explained that the dress was made in layers, with Jennifer simply hitching up the top layer to reveal her legs. This time the unfortunate incident could have been even worse. The new face of Miss Dior admitted she'd actually cut off six inches from the train of the dress before the show. 'It would have been too insane,' Jennifer told Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet Still, the dress was long enough to hide her feet and high heels, which she said she would love to take off if nobody would notice. Jennifer also revealed she had a very stressful day before the event and admitted she hadn't had time to eat. 'I'm freaking starving,' she said. She then pointed longingly to McDonald's down Hollywood Boulevard and jokingly asked her publicist to swing by and pick her up a burger.  'Today was so stressful. There was everybody in, my family got ready at my house. 'I felt like Steve Martin in Father of the Bride with all the furniture being moved around my house And her family were there to watch as Jennifer accepted her award. Her mother Karen wrapped her arms around her daughter in delight, sharing her big moment. The actress was previously nominated in the same category two years ago for her role in Winter's Bone. Most critics gave the Best Actress edge to Lawrence, an actress who's no stranger to fending off competition thanks to her star- making turn in "The Hunger Games." But it was the raw role of Tiffany Maxwell in "Silver Linings Playbook" that has given Lawrence one crowded trophy case. Lawrence now has an Oscar to squeeze in next to the SAG and Golden Globe awards she won for "Silver Linings." Lawrence was previously nominated for Best Actress for 2010's "Winter's Bone." Now with an Academy Award under her arm and two mega-franchises in their prime ("The Hunger Games" and "X-Men"), the 22-year-old Lawrence represents a new generation of superstar actresses who are able to both earn the big money and big awards.

Australia began the day 5 with the hopes of a miracle to happen so that they can save the first test while India's plan was very simple, to dismiss the last pair & then chase down the target. Australia began the day 5 with their overnight score of 232-9. It took the Indians just nine overs on Day 5 to put an end to Australia's resistance when Ravindra Jadeja broke the agonisingly long last-wicket partnership between Henriques and Lyon. Australia could add just nine runs to their tally much to the relief of the Indians who had a frustrating time trying to dismiss the last-wicket pair. Lyon, who showed a lot of grit and temperament to hang on, was dismissed by left-arm spinner Jadeja, caught by Murali Vijay at short-leg. Henriques followed up his first innings half-century with another gutsy unbeaten 81 and together with Lyon added 66 runs for the final wicket to take the match into the fifth and final day and prevent India from recording an innings victory. Australia folded up for 241 in their second innings, leaving the hosts a small victory target of 50. Chasing a small target of 50, India suffered two early blows in the form of openers Sehwag and Vijay, whose flop show with the bat continued. The opening duo of Sehwag and Vijay put on 16 runs as Vijay once again gave away his wicket to Pattinson. Vijay started his innings with a bang, smacking Lyon straight over his head for a six, his only scoring shot of the innings. But that was all the local boy could manage in the innings as he was caught by Henriques at mid-off off James Pattinson when he tried to go a big drive in the next over. Cheteshwar Pujara joined the action after Vijay's dismissal and had to go through some torrid time in the first few deliveries he faced from off- spinner Lyon. Pujara gave a half chance to the Australians which the visitors failed to pounce on. The margin of victory could have been bigger had the Indians managed to get rid of the last wicket pair on Day 4 itself and had they not lost both their openers despite chasing a small total. This was the third time that Indian spinners managed to take all the 20 wickets in a match. The first time that Indian spinners bagged all the 20 wickets was at this same venue against England in 1972-73 while the second such instance was against New Zealand in Auckland in 1975-76. The two teams will now travel to Hyderabad for the second Test be played at the Rajiv Gandhi International stadium from March 2 to 6.

Adele, who sung the theme song of James Bond movie Skyfall has won the Oscar for best original song, along with co-writer Paul Epworth, at the 85th Academy Awards in LA. The London-born singer was hot favorite for the Oscar, as he had already grabbed the golden globe & Brit award for the same category for single of the year. Skyfall is the theme for the 23rd official Bond film, also called Skyfall, starring Daniel Craig and directed by Sam Mendes, it recently became the biggest grossing film of all time at the British box office. Skyfall the song proved a commercial hit in its own right, selling more than 2m copies worldwide and reaching No 2 in the UK charts and No 8 in the US.

Daniel Day-Lewis won a record third Best Actor Oscar on Sunday for playing U.S. President Abraham Lincoln in "Lincoln."

The other nominees Sunday night were

• Bradley Cooper ("Silver Linings Playbook"),
• Hugh Jackman ("Les Miserables"),
• Joaquin Phoenix ("The Master") and
• Denzel Washington ("Flight").

Day-Lewis, 55, was the outright favorite to win the Academy Award for his quiet, intense performance as one of America's most revered presidents as he battled to end slavery and the U.S. Civil War. The British-born actor with dual Anglo-Irish citizenship won virtually every award in the run-up to Sunday's Oscar ceremony, including a Golden Globe, British BAFTA and Screen Actors Guild statuettes.

Known for months of meticulous preparation, Day-Lewis is already the holder of Best Actor Oscars for his roles as a paraplegic Irish writer in "My Left Foot" (1989) and a greedy early 20th century oil baron in "There Will Be Blood" (2007).

His win for "Lincoln" made him the first man to win three Best Actor Oscars in the 85-year history of the Academy Awards. The tall, intellectual actor also became the first person to win an Oscar for playing a U.S. President.

Accepting the award, Day-Lewis thanked the film's director, Steven Spielberg, and then paid tribute to the "mysteriously beautiful mind, body and spirit of Abraham Lincoln."

Day-Lewis chose to adopt a high-pitched speaking voice for Lincoln, in contrast to the dramatic, booming tones associated with the Civil War president in previous movies and TV portraits. But it was the humanity he brought to Lincoln that earned most critical praise and his success in bringing to life an American icon in a different, subtle way for a new generation.

Referring to his previous Oscar success with 1997's Good Will Hunting, he said:

"I never thought I would be back here and I am because of so many of you who are here tonight. It doesn't matter how you get knocked down in life, all that matters is that you get up."

Day-Lewis' immersive work as America's 16th president in "Lincoln" became one of the Oscar season's most celebrated turns from the moment the movie screened at the New York Film Festival in early October. The film was nominated for a total of 12 awards, including

• Best Picture,
• Best Director for Steven Spielberg,
• Best Supporting Actor for Tommy Lee Jones, and
• Best Supporting Actress for Sally Field.

When asked backstage if there's anyone he'd like to portray next, Day-Lewis said,

"I can't think of anyone right now because I need to have to lie down for a couple of years. No, I can't think of any. I really can't, no. It's really hard to imagine doing anything after this."

His film "Argo" took the best picture Oscar on Sunday night at the 85th Academy Awards, more than a little solace, perhaps, for being snubbed in the directing category. It was a night of redemption for the affable Affleck. Ever since the producer-director-star of "Argo" was a surprising omission in the director category when the Oscar nominations were announced in January, he and his film has been on a roll. The drama about a plot to rescue Americans in Tehran during the Iranian revolution has won nearly every major honor this awards season, including the Golden Globe, the Screen Actors Guild Award, the Producers Guild Award and the Directors Guild Award. "I never thought I would be back here," Affleck said as he held the trophy aloft. He'd won an Oscar 15 years ago with Matt Damon for original screenplay category for "Good Will Hunting," but since then he has seen several career lows, including the ill-fated "Gigli," which he made with then-girlfriend Jennifer Lopez. His star began to rise again as he turned to directing. "It doesn't matter how you get knocked down in life, 'cause that's gonna happen. All that matters is you gotta get up." It was a dream come true night for Anne Hathaway in LA when she claimed the Oscar Award for best supporting actress Oscar for her role in Les Miserables. In this film Tom Hooper's adaptation of the hit stage musical cast her as the tragic Fantine, who loses her job as a seamstress and comes to a bad end by the city gates. Hathaway's anguished rendition of the song 'I Dreamed a Dream' provided the film with its main emotional wallop. It is the first Oscar win for the 30-year-old performer, who was previously nominated in the best actress category for her turn as a middle-class drug addict in the 2008 drama Rachel Getting Married. Hathaway's other notable films include Brokeback Mountain, The Devil Wears Prada, Alice inWonderland and The Dark Knight Rises. Starring in the very musical that made her want to become an actressat the age of 6, Anne Hathaway won the supporting actress Oscar for playing the doomed seamstress-turned-prostitute Fantine in "Les Misérables." In taking home the supporting actress Academy Award, Hathaway beat out Sally Field from "Lincoln," who was considered her closest rival in the category. To play the role of the emaciated Fantine in "Les Misérables," Hathaway lost some 25 pounds, so much weight that her director told her to stop. "To be honest, I thought she was going further than she should, and I tried to discourage her," Tom Hooper said. But even if Oscar voters praised her work, Hathaway gave herself mixed reviews. Asked if she was pleased with her performance in the finished film before its theatrical release, she shrugged and said, "Eh." While on the other hand, Christoph Waltz picked up his second best supporting actor Oscar at the 85th Academy Awards, winning the prize for his silken turn in Django Unchained. "Like slavery, it's a cash for flesh business," he explains at one point. Waltz was the marginal favourite heading into the night, having already won at both the Golden Globes and Baftas. He won his previous Oscar for playing a smirking Nazi in Tarantino's 2009 war thriller Inglourious Basterds. The American film-maker is clearly Waltz's lucky charm. Christoph Waltz won Best Supporting Actor at the 85th annual Academy Awards, besting four other former Oscar winners. Waltz, who plays a German bounty hunter in Quentin Tarantino's Spaghetti Western homage, had previously won Best Supporting Actor awards from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (Golden Globes) and BAFTA. Pairing with Tarantino has been a bingo for Waltz; he also won Best Supporting Actor for "Inglourious Basterds," Tarantino's revisionist World War II drama, at the 2010 Oscars ceremony. The ever-charming Waltz thanked his fellow "Django" stars while accepting the award. As mentioned, all nominees in the Best Supporting Actor category were previous Oscar winners.
